I feel so fortunate to have won the third quarter wedding photography competition organized by Wedding Photojournalist Association. Although I’m only 17th placed under the category ‘Dancing‘, I’m a little proud of myself just because this is the first time I ever enter into a competition, and I was competing with award winning wedding photographers worldwide, including United States, England, Germany, Brazil and France. I will continue try to perfect my skills and 2010 will only be better than 2009. Thank you so much for your support!!

Los Gatos Wedding Photography : Laura & Colin
Laura and Colin’s wedding was set at a family friend’s home atop a hill in Los Gatos. The sweeping views of the valley below were breathtaking and the wildlife seemed quite domesticated since deer and wild birds gathered as the wedding went forward. As the shuttle buses started to arrive, Laura with her bridesmaids came first. Laura was beaming with excitement for her big day and was very enthusiastic about getting ready for her big day. Her dress was lovely and had one of the most unique bustles on a wedding dress that I’ve seen so far. Colin was next to arrive and my husband made sure that he didn’t see Laura before the ceremony. Colin was very gung ho about getting some photos done before the ceremony with family and friends was super easy going. As we shifted from spot to spot taking photos, the sun began to set which was nature’s cue to start the ceremony.
Colin’s father officiated a touching and humorous ceremony which kept everyone’s attention. With the sun almost down, the candles started to shine more brightly which casted a beautiful glow around the reception. It grew a little chilly as the night progressed but the heat lamps kept the party warm. Both Laura and Colin’s fathers made touching speeches as well as their siblings which drew laughter and tears from everyone. It was very apparent that Laura and Colin were meant to be together and as the night went on, you could tell that they had both their family and friends full support too. An elegant first dance and a energetic dance floor continued late into the night with a finale of a live performance of “At Last” by a family friend. And as the music faded out so ended a beautiful wedding but was just the start of Laura and Colin’s beautiful life together.

Moss Beach Wedding Photography : Alexis & Craig
On a cool and slightly drizzly Saturday at Moss Beach, Alexis and Craig were married at a beach front home overlooking the wavy ocean. The view was breathtaking with the waves hitting the beach just a few steps away from the ceremony. Most of the guests immediately walked out of the shuttles and off to the beach to get a look in before settling into their seats or finding room to stand. Craig and his groomsmen were there early which let me take some shots of them around the area. He was really easy going and a little nervous heading into the ceremony. We got some great shots before Alexis arrived before the ceremony with bridesmaids in tow behind her. With their friend officiating over the ceremony and a little humor from the vows, Alexis and Craig exchanged vows and were husband and wife. Alexis’ dress was really pretty and the flowers that she chose fit perfectly with the decorations for their wedding. After a few shots of the family and friends, everyone left to Alexis’ childhood home for the reception.
Before Alexis and Craig settled into the reception, they took us to wooded area nearby to get some shots in. It’s not just an ordinary forest, but the forest where the opening scene of Memoir of a Geisha was filmed. They weren’t kidding when they said that it was beautiful. Sweeping views of the ocean and tall trees with great canopies provided some of the more impressive shots that I’ve taken at a wedding so far. I could tell how much they loved each other through some of the looks that I saw through my camera during that time. It was even more so as we waited for them to make their grand entrance that we could see them talking and laughing at a distance from the house. Once Alexis and Craig made it into their reception the party kicked off. Albeit a little tight, everyone made room for talking, dancing, and (something new for me) African Drum Dance.
